Inflammation is your body’s natural response to injury and is often followed by pain. Luckily, this discomfort can be reduced in a few different ways such as your diet! Physical Therapist, Shannon Zalewski, DPT, says, “It is important to control inflammation, and I believe it is best to try natural means to accomplish this. Diet has a huge impact on raising or lowering pain.”
When searching for inflammation reducing smoothies, we came across Sweet Peas and Saffron’s, “Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Smoothie with Pineapple” smoothie! We knew we just had to give it a try! Denise’s recipe is sugar-free and calls for 1 ¼ cup of almond milk. Well, our sweet tooth decided to substitute the almond milk with 1 ¼ cup orange juice.
The ingredients used in the smoothie are not only anti-inflammatory but are also joint-friendly! Turmeric and the Bromelain in Pineapple both reduce the inflammation while the black pepper enhances the bio-availability of turmeric. Pineapple also contains magnesium which soothes the joints and muscles. Kale and Orange Juice are both immune building and rich in antioxidants. Chia Seeds, a superfood, are rich in fiber and Omega-3’s!
- 1 1/4 orange juice
- 1 cup packed kale or spinach
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 1/2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
Blend and enjoy!
