Over a month ago, Christie Nat joined the Performance Physical Therapy family. Already, she’s made quite the formidable impression. Naturally, she fit right in, and the patients absolutely love her! She’s personable, patient and is passionate about helping people through physical therapy!
First Impressions of Performance Physical Therapy
Her first impression of Performance Physical Therapy was that our staff was very friendly and welcoming. She also really liked our involvement in the community, what we call- PHILanthropy! When asked what she enjoys most about Performance, she responded, “The relationships I get to build with patients and working with them to achieve their goals.”
Christie’s Journey to Becoming a Physical Therapist
Christie’s first introduction to Physical Therapy was through her own various injuries from being active in gymnastics and volleyball. During her undergrad she worked as a Physical Therapy Aide. That experience solidified her wanting to become a Physical Therapist!
Before grad school, Christie studied Nutrition at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She found nutrition so fascinating and enjoyed learning about it as it’s an important part of our lives. Christie only had positive things to say about her undergrad, “I loved everything about San Luis Obispo especially the friendships, beautiful places to hike, and living so close to the beach.” Next stop was Grad School!
Throughout her three years attending Grad School, Christie lived in New Hampshire, Arizona, Colorado, and California! She gained a wealth of hands-on experience. This included working in an outpatient pediatric clinic, an inpatient neuro rehabilitation hospital, and a few orthopedic clinics. The biggest takeaway from her experience, “Seeing individuals through varying stages of life and recovery has helped me gain a better perspective on how I can best help patients return to their desired level of function.” Christie is also LSVT Big certified. LSVT Big is an exercise program that was developed to address movement impairments that patients with Parkinson’s disease typically develop. It can help to improve amplitude and speed of movement, balance, and overall quality of life. This program is particularly effective when implemented early after diagnosis.
For students who are pursuing a career in Physical Therapy, Christie recommends gaining exposure by both shadowing and working in as many different settings as you can. She says, “Physical Therapy is such a vast profession and there are so many different aspects of patient care.”
More about Christie…
Outside of being a stellar Physical Therapist, Christie enjoys spending time with family, friends and her dog, Buster! She also likes to run, hike, camp (especially in Tahoe) and travel to new places.
