Dr. Mallory McGowan: An Integral Part of our Performance Physical Therapy Team
Mallory McGowan, filled with fun energy, can lighten up any room and get along with just about anyone. For the past two years at Performance Physical Therapy, Mallory continually provides top-notch, compassionate care with her patients.
Education as a Physical Therapist
Mallory graduated from one of the top-ranked Doctor of Physical Therapy Programs in California with high honors.
Mallory McGowan attended University of the Pacific and received her Bachelor of Arts in Sports Medicine. Next, she attended California State University, Fresno. There, she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy with high honors. Through her internship at UC Davis inpatient rehab, Mallory gained additional experience. This experience involved working with traumatic brain injury, stroke, and amputee patients. In addition, Mallory is certified in Original Strength Training. Original Strength Training focuses on going back to the basics during infant development to rewire the neuromuscular system. This technique helps to improve balance, strength, and posture awareness to treat specific injuries.
Obviously, continuing her education is very important to Mallory. This is why Mallory, Dr. Megan Self, PT, DPT, Clinic Director of Roseville and Jennifer O’Toole, Physical Therapist Assistant at our East Sacramento Clinic, woke up at 5 A.M. to drive to San Francisco for Level 1 and Level 2 Myofascial Decompression (commonly known as Cup Therapy) courses. Myofascial Decompression, a form of soft tissue massage, can offer additional healing benefits. As a result, Mallory believes Myofascial could help with tightness and increase blood flow, especially in a chronically tight muscle or body part.
Goals as a Physical Therapist
As a physical therapist, Mallory McGowan’s goal is to improve her patients’ quality of life and to leave feeling their absolute best! Therefore, Mallory believes it is essential to the recovery process for her to build a relationship with her patients. By sharing valuable information to help prevent further injury, patients gain insight into things like proper posture. As a result, with each patient, Mallory offers therapy techniques that work for their specific needs.
So what’s the motivation behind this driven Physical Therapist?
It’s patient SUCCESS and HEALING people. She says, “Getting someone back to 100% function with NO PAIN is extremely rewarding and motivates me to continue in the profession.” Mallory believes anyone can benefit from physical therapy whether it be for pain management, flexibility training, or strengthening.
Outside of Physical Therapy, Mallory enjoys outdoor games like ping pong, corn hole and bocce ball. She also loves hanging out with friends and family, practicing makeup, traveling and seeing new musicals!
We want to thank Mallory McGowan for all of her hard work and congratulate her on two years with us. We’re grateful to have such a star on our team.
