Feature Friday with Ian Folsom – Our Marine, our doctor, and our friend.

If you’ve need physical therapy in East Sacramento, you may have already met our clinic director. If you’ve had the chance to treat with Dr. Ian Folsom, you know that his honest and forthright nature couples well with his heart and passion for patient success. Ian joined the Performance Physical Therapy family in January of 2015 as a Physical Therapist. He now serves as both Clinic Director of our East Sacramento location and Director of Rehabilitation Services. As Director of Rehabilitation Services, he leads all four clinics by example, consistently demonstrating hard work ethic and dedication.

His career and education

Before Ian’s medical career began, he served as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Specialist for the United States Marine Corps from 2000 to 2004. In 2007, he began pursuing his career in health and in 2009, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Physiology from the University of Iowa. In 2010, he began his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota and graduated in 2013.

Ian has a deep appreciation for the patient-doctor relationships he fosters, especially as they come with the opportunity to learn and grow from each other. He says, “I want to learn something from everyone as much as I want each patient to learn from their time in our clinic.” When going through exercises and stretches, Ian openly communicates what he is doing and what benefit it has towards his patient. Making sure to maintain full transparency to ensure each visit is not only effective but educational too.

Ian’s Goals for 2018

Before 2018 ends, Ian has a few goals he’d like to accomplish. One being to run the Urban Cow Half Marathon. Held on October 7th, 2018, the Half Marathon is held in William Land Park and helps fund many local, non-profit youth running programs and high school cross-country teams. He’s also working on becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). CSCS’s train athletes to improve athletic performance by conducting sport-specific testing sessions, designing effective strength conditioning programs and providing guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. His final and most heartwarming goal he’d like to accomplish before the year ends is to plan a visit back home to Iowa and see his nieces.

Thank you, Ian, for your service to our country and of course, for your commitment to both Performance Physical Therapy and all of our amazing patients.
